By far, Al-Maliki is now probably (along with Hamas in Gaza) the only executive who was actually elected by his people in a rather free elections in Iraq. And by far, of all the tyrants of the Middle East who can't even know what a ballot box is even if it hits them in the face, the US has only one problem with the one guy who was actually elected. That tells you a lot about the US and its disrespect for the democratic process in the Middle East. Foes of democracy or its admirers will be correct to conclude that for the time being democratic process should be discarded because the US won't allow it. As much as I detest Maliki, mind you.
