Can you imagine the uproar of the murder of Israeli "civilians" is described as being "due to nationalist motives"? And if you want to invoke this as an excuse, can we not say that all the violence perpetrated by Palestinians (which is far small in scale compared to Israeli violence) is due to "nationalist motives"?
