counting the victims of Arab wars: Against the standards of the Economist

When the sentence starts like this: "Leaving out the damage directly caused by America’s invasion of Iraq in 2003", you realize that someone has decided to absolve the West of responsibility.  Look at the list of wars above: in every single one of them, Western governments (primarily the US) was present arming one side or another in those war, and thus prolonging the wars to the periods indicated.  In fact, how many of those wars were instigated by the US and its allies?
