I will write later in detail on his recent article in the Nation but this occurred to me while driving. Back in the 1990s, American conservatives argued that the sanctions against apartheid South Africa are harmful and could "backfire"--the same word used by Chomsky--because they may unwittingly hurt the blacks there. American liberals countered by saying then: but we should listen to the blacks and they demand sanctions. Today, some American leftists like Chomsky are arguing that we should not support BDS because that could unwittingly hurt the interests of the Palestinians and that they could backgrie. To that I say: well, remember how the American conservative argument was countered: we should listen to the occupied victims themselves and they demand AT LEAST BDS.
