Despite the tough competition and the effective campaign of Dr. Hassan Nouri, Bashshar won. It was as close as Truman versus Dewey. Based on the official results, it seems that all Syrian rebels and supporters of exile groups voted for Bashshar (one of them, a PhD, voted for Dr. Hassan Nouri).
