This latest Gallup Poll is quite revealling: it asks people around the world for their opinion (approval of disapproval) of US "leadership" around the world. But the phraesology struck me: pollsters ask Americans for their views on job approval or disapproval of a president they selected in elections. Who assigned the US this global leadership role? Who elected the US to undertake that mission? That language assumes the global selection of the US. But leave that aside. It is striking how bad the job approval of the US is in the Arab world (outside Mauritania). Look at places like Morocco and Egypt, for example. Even Lebanon registered one of the lowest approval ratings for the US (a mere %18).
