So Sadiq Jalal Al-`Azm's Self-Criticism After the Defeat will be published in a few month in an English translation. My favorite part of the story is that Fouad Ajami is writing the introduction of the book. How fitting. I can't think of anyone more qualified to write the introduction to that anti-academic and racist book than Ajami (or maybe Netanyahu to be fair). When you read it in English, you need to compare the silly (and comically absurd) section on the Fahlawi personality) with Raphael Patai's The Arab Mind. Here is my critique of the book in Arabic. Such books will never be published about Latinos or Africans anymore. But then again: the Arab Mind and that genre is in much demand in post-Sep. 11 America.
