What you need to know about Bahrain

From a reader who does not want to be identified: "As`ad, I think I've mentioned to you before that I write synopses of academic books for a living. Well, just now I got Small State, Dangerous Region: A Strategic Assessment of Bahrain by one Mitchell Belfer (published by Peter Lang). Here is Belfer on the anti-regime demonstrations: "Bahrain is determined to continue to steer the course of regional instability; to prosper for all its citizens and to survive this latest round of regional upheaval. Perhaps this is what makes the past two years of troubles gripping Bahrain so important. It is not that there are self-described revolutionaries seeking to change the political system of the country and neither is it a simple case of political repression. Instead, the 2011-2013 series of demonstrations, largely conducted by fractions within the country's Shia population, smack of exogenous interference."

So, Bahraini protests are "exogenous interference" and Saudi invasion is.... not mentioned (at least in the introduction). Americans and Europeans are mentioned but only in so far as they are allegedly afraid of upsetting Iran!"
