The WP is worried that the sanctions may hurt the rich of Russia: I need a bucket for the tears

"Nostalgia for the Soviet era is widespread here, but millions of middle-class people also enjoy being able to vacation in France or Turkey, drive imported cars and eat imported food — and the diminishment of all that would sting."  Middle class? I thought that the Russian economy is in "shambles"--this is the word that is used to describe the economy of any country that happens to disobey US orders.
