There is nothing I hate more than newsletters and magazines of private schools and colleges that cater to spoiled rich brats. So I get the newsletter of my high school in Beirut, IC. Alumni send dispatches about their achievements and accomplishments to impress one another. This item from the Winter 2013 edition really got my attention: "Dr. Nicholas Chbat, a senior scientist at Philips Medical Research, New York, was selected to receive the highest award presented by the IEEE organization which is the largest society representing engineers all over one world (over one million members). It was a very tough competition with hundreds of international nominees. He was selected along with a Harvard professor to receive the highest technical Award of this organization for his research work in Bio Robotics engineering. He traveled to Osaka, Japan to receive the award. Dr. Chbat will not only be the first Lebanese but the first Arab to receive this prestigious award."
I feel like writing him and asking: but are you the very human to ever receive this award? And were there other nominees from other planets?
PS I really feel like writing to those newsletters one day and saying: As`ad AbuKhalil was the first Arab ever to eat at a new Asian fusion restaurant in Modesto, California and the lines outside the restaurant were such that the ability to sample the food was a great honor for Arabs around the world. The IC newsletter shall receive updates about this very prestigious honor.
