The job of an American ambassador in the Middle East

"Ambassador Robert Ford — the man whose job it was to mobilize successful political opposition to the regime..." I would admire this if this was ALSO the job of US ambassadors in Jordan, Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Yemen, Qatar, Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait and Libya. (thanks Ali)
