Look at these desperate attempts by Ms. Morris to justify and rationalize the massacre of `Alawites and show she also contradicts herself in the same article. She begins the article by claiming that the story of the massacre is a mere claim by the Syrian regime: "the Syrian government alleged mass killings in nearby Hama." She then cites opposition sources about the massacres (with the typical spin) which is in contradiction with the first sentence about the mere claim by the regime: "The Islamist brigades Ahrar al-Sham and Jund al-Aqsa were among the rebel groups that claimed to have “liberated” the village. Videos posted online showed rebels pulling down the state flag. One showed a slain man in military fatigues.

So according to Ms. Morris, the claim that innocent `Alawites were killed is not true because the video only showed a man in military fatigues. 2) she cites an opposition source which called all the civilians part of a government "paramilitary group". Worse: she then tries (as most Western journalists do these days) to justify the killings of `Alawites by reminding readers that Alawite is the same sect of Bashshar: "Maan in Hama, largely home to Alawites, members of the same sect as President Bashar al-Assad.".
