Who is a political independent in Lebanon? The New York Times has the answer

"A knot of those who did turn out stood in the square near the Christmas tree. Kamal Yazigi, a philosopher and political independent who belongs to the March 14 the coalition’s secretariat".  Wait. Let me get this straight.  So Yaziji (who I knew when he was a Marxist-Leninist in high school) is an independent WHO BELONGS TO THE SECRETARIAT OF MARCH 14?  Does the foreign editor of the Times bother to notice such phrasing, or all goes when it comes to furthering the political agenda of the paper?  This is like saying that someone is an independent who belongs to the Shura Council of Hizbullah.
