The New York Times explains to its readers why the US disagrees with Russian foreign policy

"[Russia] favors state sovereignty and status quo stability over the spread of Western-style democracy."  I see. For this reason, the US (which never invoked the concept of "stability" in its foreign policy--say in the Middle East) has been really working hard to spread "Western-style" democracy in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Morocco, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Yemen among other places.  Makes sense.
