A major element of US foreign policy: reassuring Israel

Notice how much US foreign policy is dedicated to reassuring Israel.  When the US decided to not attack Syria, John Kerry had to fly to Israel to "reassure Israel."  And now the US is devoting energy to reassure Israel that the US has not given up on bombing Iran.  This on the long-term would be seen as catastrophic for US imperial designs.  Six million Jews of Israel mean much more to the US than the entire Arab and Muslim populations.  This was the argument that James Forrestal (then secretary of defense) made in 1948, when Truman considered the recognition of Israel.  I often tell the story how on Sep. 11, the name James Forrestal kept coming to my mind all day that day.  Look at this story in the Times today:  "As the Obama administration embarks on a highly visible diplomatic overture to Iran, White House officials are engaged in a quieter, behind-the-scenes effort to reassure Israel that they will not fall for the charms of Iran’s new president by prematurely easing pressure on his government to curb its nuclear program."
