Taha Husayn's views on Egyptian nationalism evolved over the years. I rarely see references to that. In the 1960s, Husayn claimed in published articles (in Al-Jumhuriyyah newspaper) that he shifted from narrow Egyptian nationalism to Arab nationalism. Husayn may be neither: this politically cowardly writer simply went along with the ruling authorities: he was subservient under Faruq and subservient under Nasser.
