"Kuwaiti Taekwondo player Abdullah Al-Farhood
withdrew from the international Taekwondo Trelleborg Open 2013, concluded in
Sweden Saturday, after refusing to play against an Israeli peer.
In a phone call with KUNA, Chairman of Kuwait Taekwondo Federation Waleed Al-Mirshad said that the move comes in harmony with the State of Kuwait's deep-rooted policy of boycotting Israel.
He noted that Ali Al-Mirshad had pulled out of the World Taekwondo Championship in Austria last June for the same reason. "This withdrawal is a cause for pride to the athlete and his club," Al-Mirshad said. He pointed out that Farhoud had qualified to the second round of the competition after defeating a Danish athlete in the first round by 16-4 points."
