In the service of Bahraini royal family:

A well-known Western correspondent in the Middle East who does not wish to be identified sent me this (I cite with his/her permission):
"One of Bahrain's biggest 'successes' has been the coopting of this 'journalist':
Look at the level of language used - an 'Atatollah state'...In some odd capacity that no one ever understood [she has worked for the New York Times]. She was flown in from Germany to cover events on Bahrain a couple of times and published as 'special correspondent' or something like that. But she was staying at the government's expense. That and the opinions she began expressing aroused some suspicion among journalists on..."
