Bashshar is a horse?

"“Bashar is a horse,” Mr. Farouh said, almost spitting with disgust as he said the president’s name. “He is a donkey.”"  There is no way that Mr. Farouh referred to Bashshar as a "horse" because a horse is used as a compliment in Arabic.  Typical misunderstanding and mistranslation in the Times.
