Alaa Al-Aswani: Disenfranchising the Egyptian poor

Yesterday, Egyptian liberal novelist, tweeted on Twitter repeatedly his new theory: that the illiterate poor in Egypt (sometimes he would call them "illiterate simpletons") should not be allowed to vote because they are ignorantly supporting the Muslim Brotherhood.  I reminded him that his call is exactly like the call of white supremacists in the US who wanted to exclude blacks from voting under the same arguments.  This shows you the nature of liberal politics, in the Arab world and beyond.
