Why do US Middle East experts in the government insist on embarrassing themselves? Why?

"“Lazim yetanahi”– “He must step down” – she said in Arabic, but she did not explain how that was to come about."  What I find hilarious in this regard is that even when those top Middle East experts in the US government try to throw in one--ONE, for potato's sake--Arabic word they managed to fuck it up.  One word, people.  I know that they feel jealous and dumb compared to European and Asian officials who deal with the Middle East and who tend to be fluent in Arabic, but enough of this spectacle.  Jeffrey Feltman only used the word "thank you" in Arabic and he also managed to fuck it up as well.
