I have been receiving reports from inside the Lebanese Communist Party about a violent meeting of its Central Committee the other day. Apparently, an argument developed into a fist fight and a member of the committee, Faruq Dahruj, was beaten up by members loyal to the secretary-general, Khalid Hdadi. The fight involved the sale of arms by the party, for profit. Hizbullah had donated some useless weapons to the party back in 2008 and someone in the party (with the knowledge of Hdadi, I am told) sold the weapons to an arms dealer in the Biqa` for some $100,000. Of course, the conflict in the party has been raging for years since the 10th party congress. Not a pretty picture.
