So while there is a trail of writings by Ahmad Muadh Al-Khatib, and while Mr. Al-Khatib has famously protested the Cairo document just last week because it did not talk about the application of Shari`ah, Thomas Pierret invents a new and improved Ahmad Mu`adh Al-Khatib and bizarrely claims that he stands for separation of church and state (or the state and religion, to use his exact words). Mr. Pierret needs to work on his Arabic and not rely on bogus English claims by those who promoted Mr. Al-Khatib. (thanks "Ibn Rushd")
PS The exact words of Pierret, to quote him accurately: "Il est en réalité pour la séparation de l’État de la religion (fasl al-dawla ‘an al-din), et non de la religion de l’État." Also, Pierret rules that Mr. Al-Khatib is a democrat, case closed: "Oui, c’est un démocrate mais avec un fort attachement aux normes et à l’identité islamique."
