Government militias

"Officials in Libya said on Wednesday that government forces had taken control of the western town of Bani Walid, after a deadly assault that lasted almost a week and led to accusations that the country’s new government was using indiscriminate force to punish a restive city."  What government forces? Those are government militias doing battle with rival militias.  Get the record straight, please, as impossible as my request is for the New York Times.
