Correct me if I am wrong: Syrian defectors

When an assistant to the driver of the deputy technical assistant to the secretary of a low-level employee of a Syrian ministry defects, it is published as a breaking story and Western reporters--groupies of the Syrian "revolution" or people who would not recognize a revolution even if it hit them in the pocket--rush to tweet the news to the world.  Bud did any Western outlet publish the story of the defection of the southern commander of the Free Syrian Army back to the Syrian regime army?
