From Saudi Arabia

A reader in Saudi Arabia sent me this:  "my thoughts have been ... yes this is a media spectacle. the crowds are small, i've been in a protest of 10,000 in the states and it would not get covered at all -- therefore it did not exist. but now my thoughts on this are changing about this minority. why? here in saudi some of the foreign women here, who for the last year have been walking to local restaurants, ordering food, waiting for it inside the restaurant with abaya and then taking it home to eat. in the last two days locals have made calls to the mutawa(men who specialize in generating fear and the art of humiliation), the woman were told to wait outside only, at the same time the restaurant owners have expressed deep fear at these developments. this is a recounting of multiple incidents.  wondering what will be left when the spectacle finally moves on."
