The former Syrian prime minister (the man who defected) said in a press conference that the Syrian regime controls only 30% of Syria.  Several newspapers carried a story in which a seasoned Jordanian politician asked him in a meeting: if the regime controls only 30% of Syria, why did you have to flee at night and not stay in the safe 70% of Syria?
