My colleague in Pakistan, Mumtaz Ahmad, sent me this: "Hamid
Mir, a well-informed journalist and TV anchor writing in Pakistan’s largest Urdu
language newspaper Daily Jang (20 August) reports that Pakistan refused to
endorse the anti-Syrian resolution during the last week OIC meeting in Saudi
Arabia. According to Mir, Pakistan’s position was to seek diplomatic help from
Russia and China in securing peace in Syria. Mir’s sources told him that as a
result of Pakistan’s refusal to vote against Syria’s suspension from OIC, “the
senior most Pakistani delegate in the OIC conference” [President Asif Ali
Zardari?] was treated to “some very harsh words by a very important Arab leader
[King Abdullah?]".
