So David Lesch wrote as an apologist for the Asad regime. He wrote that Asad was misunderstood. He tells the press that Asad was wonderful and great but that he later became imperial (by that he means that Asad--by his own admission--stopped responding to his emails). But political winds change, so what does David Lesch do? Well, he has a new book out and this time he is critical of Asad. Academic political courage as its best.
PS I was just thinking. Many--but not all--of the academic experts cited on Syria these days in the Western press spent years serving as apologists for the Syrian regime.
