Jodi Rudoren is the new bureau chief for the New York Times in Israel. People think that I react adversely in a knee-jerk fashion to every article I read in the New York Times. Not true, of course. I know that there are decent people who work there, and I am in touch with a few but--of course--they don't want you to know that. But I read her article yesterday about Arabs in Israel and I must confess that it is in style and in content head and shoulder above anything that we would have read by Bronner or by Kershner. The last two would never ever allow Arabs to express themselves. I mean, there are things that I would criticize about the article (the overwhelming presence of Israeli experts in an article about Arabs) but I was pleasantly surprise. I hope that my praise would not put her in trouble.
