Resignation at UN (Pakistan)

My friend and colleague, Mumtaz Ahmad (president of International Islamic University in Islamabad) sent me this (I cite with his permission):  "Here is a news: Today, Pakistan's Permanent Representative at the UN resigned from his position expressing his disagreement with the instructions that he received from Islamabad to support more severe sanctions against Syria. Pakistan's UN Ambassador Hussain Abdullah Haroon had earlier advised his government to support the position taken by China and Russia and not rush to go along with the American-led sanctions lobby. When Ambassador Haroon told Islamabad that he could not endorse sanctions, the Pakistani government sent its ambassador to Paris to sign on the dotted lines. Ambassador Haroon resigned in protest and would return to Pakistan next week."

PS I don't think that people would say that he was paid by Iran or Russia because he is independently wealthy.
