Conspiracy of silence

There is news of fanaticism and restrictions coming out of Saudi Arabia on a daily basis: if such news are coming out of Iran, they would make it to the front pages of US newspapers. But such news rarely make it to the American and Western press because they are part of the overall culture of prostration to Saudi kings and princes.  The other day, the Saudi Ministry of Interior threatened to expel any resident of Saudi Arabia who dares to eat and drink in public during Ramadan.  Did any Western paper report on that?
