I never ever liked Gandhi and never appreciated his ideas or methods (not to speak about his "chastity" challenges that did not amuse his wife). But I am amused that Westerner colonialists advocate Gandhi to the developing countries but they don't advocate him for themselves. The US, for example, wanted the Iraqis to practice Gandhi methods against the occupiers (and even that was disapproved) as it was dropping tons of bombs and missiles over their heads. The aims of the colonizers are quite clear. The movie Gandhi is very clear in its reactionary objectives especially with its obsession with sympathetic White Man characters.
