re-election of Ghalyun

"On Thursday, the head of the council, Burhan Ghalioun, announced that he would resign, two days after his disputed re-election."  OK, Ghalyun by his own account was not "re-elected".  He was appointed twice before to this position and this time around he was "elected" by the governing body of the Syrian National Council . But the members and leaders of the council have all been appointed.  So the appointed folks "elected" one of them?
