A reader in Cairo sent me this: "Two days ago, the New York Times published an article ()
praising the "dependability" and "efficiency" of Cairo's subway amid the "chaos"
above ground. But the article failed to even mention that, many times over the
past year, subway trains in Cairo have systematically skipped station stops
close to ongoing protests or sit-ins in order to curtail the inflow of
protestors and not allow those already there to flee from thugs and arbitrary
detention. The very next day, near the Abassiya area, a brave man threw his
body in front of one such subway train that was refusing to stop, so that
hundreds crammed in the station have a chance to escape violence and the
prospect of arrest. Here is the unbelievable video."
