Do you remember the "Gay girl in Damascus" hoax??

The Guardian should remember the story as they lead with stories from the "gay girl from Damascus" dispatches.  And when the hoax was exposed, there were no outcries and no self-examinations and no apologies that I remember.  If the "gay girl from Damascus" was directed against Israel, there would have been US Congressional investigations and the Guardian and other newspapers would have printed front page apologies, and staffers and editors would have been fired.  My point?  Yes, Guardian, we remember your role in the "Gay Girl from Damascus" story, and we remember how sure you were of your sources then.   At least you are honest now and admit that you obtained it from the highly objective sources in the...Ikhwan-led Syrian National Council. (thanks Sultan for reminding me)
