I never knew how Western media developed criteria by which people who feel strongly for Israel are introduced are experts even if they are experts in Chinese cooking. Similarly, I am noticing that people who are intensely anti-Syrian (some are opposed to the regime and some like in Lebanon have a long record of racism against the Syrian people) are now introduced as experts on Syria: "“He is a man of the regime, without any doubts,” said Nadim Shehadi, an associate fellow of the Middle East Program at Chatham House, a London-based research group. “The Dara roots do not mean in any way that he’s more likely to be a dissident or anything like that.”" Just because Shehadi is a supporter of March 14 in Lebanon, he becomes an automatic expert on Syria? What is next? Sa`d Hariri is an academic specialist on Syria, his prostration and the prostration of his father to the Asad family notwithstanding?
PS Faruq Shar` can't survive: he is a tool of the Asad regime and has a long history of service; 2) he is hated by Gulf regimes because he has been most vocal against them in the past. This is not to say that he is no opportunist.
