Covering Homs

"The precise number of dead was almost impossible to obtain. The Syrian National Council, which has sought to act as an umbrella group for the opposition, said more than 260 were killed. The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the toll in Khaldiya and the other neighborhoods was 217. Both groups, along with other activists, said the wounded numbered in the hundreds, though again, there was no specific number.
One opposition activist said the Syrian military suffered casualties, too."  So the last sentence is separate from the preceding paragraph? Was the opposition activist source separate from the sources on the casualties of 260 or 217? I mean, could the reporting get more jumbled on Syria?  And Mr. Shadid: if thee Syrian military suffered casualties "too", does that mean that fire was going in both directions (notwithstanding the superior killing and repressive powers of the lousy regime)?

PS The Syrian regime of Bashshar has proven its ability to commit massacres against the Syrian people very much like the regime of Hafidh, but the Western and Arab reporting is pretty lousy.
