Reading her "No Higher Honor" only confirms my impression of her. Nothing original about her and she has a most uninteresting personality. You can read hundreds of pages and not find one insight at all about anything. Just plane tedious description without a trace of invention or innovation, intellectually speaking. Nelson Polsoby of UC Berkeley used to divide graduate students at Berkeley into two groups: the hard workers who would do well in academia through hard work, and those who excel by sheer originality of thought and approaches. I am not sure that Rice would fit into wither of the two groups.
