In the last issue of the Economist, I feel the correspondent has succumbed to pressures and feels compelled to produce the conventional wisdom about the topic. "Ismailis, concentrated in Salamiya, north-east of Homs, have joined the anti-Assad fray. The Druze have become more hostile. So have young Kurds, though their political leaders have been wary of speaking out." In fact, even Walid Jumblat has chided the Druzes of Syria for the reported support for the regime. New TV sent its correspondent to Suwayda' and he reported the same. As for the Kurds, there has not been evidence of widespread support for the uprising. The writer does not produce evidence here at all.
