I have been asking yesterday about the stance of the Communist Action Party of Syria. I have followed this party for years and collected its political literature (when it was named the Communist Action League). I was impressed how they launched armed struggle against the regime in the wake of the military intervention by the Syrian regime on behalf of the allies of Israel in Lebanon in 1976. Party leaders and members have suffered a lot from persecution and torture by regime goons. It has been said that the regime has been particularly cruel with party leaders and members because the party succeeded in attracting educated `Alawites. I can report this: many of the top party leaders, cadres, and members have been in jail for months. But one party leader, `Abdul-`Aziz Al-Khayyir, has given a lousy interview in which he sounded like functionary of the lousy Syrian National Council.
