I only got to see the full interview with Bashshar by Barbara Walters yesterday: I saw the full excerpts on Syrian regime TV. A lousy interview by any means. He seems to be talking from another planet. He seems so removed from the suffering of the Syrian people. He seems isolated by advisers and hangers on. He seems arrogant: not realizing the extent to which many many people oppose him, even if some Syrian still supports him (unlike dogmatic supporters of Syrian National Council, I do believe that there are many many Syrians who voluntarily still support the regime. I see many college students from Syria on my Facebook arguing back and forth about the regime and my judgment is that there are indeed Syrians who support the regime and who are not armed goons of the regime--as much as I disagree with that choice, just as I disagree with the choice of those who support the Syrian National Council.
