"Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari and Transportation Minister Hadi al-Amiri have both been charged with accepting bribes in relation to their handling of the Kuwaiti Mubarak al-Kabir seaport. The Kuwaiti port, still under construction, is located along Iraq’s only maritime gateway to the Gulf. Zebari has openly defended the port project, while al-Amiri has been a publicly vocal critic. Kuwaiti officials allegedly bribed the ministers with US$100,000 and expensive watches, among other luxury items."
