How could this stupid sentence appear in the New York Times? Even the New York Times?

"the Americans were unhappy that the Saudis sent troops to crush an uprising in Bahrain."  Really.  How unhappy was the US??  Did we protest to the Saudis?  Did the US take their case to the UNSC?  (thanks Yaman)
