"The UAE Federal Supreme Court on Sunday adjourned the hearing of a case against five Emirati bloggers to October 23. The presiding judge adjourned the case after hearing the testimonies from witnesses, defence lawyers and the Public Prosecution. After the hearing session, a legal representative of the court announced that the court will testify more witnesses of the defendants and take their verbal statements in the upcoming hearing as it was requested by the defence lawyers. The representative also asked them (defendants) in a written statement to present written documents and ordered that the five accused will continue to be put behind bars. The court allowed on Sunday morning for the second time the public and media to witness the trial proceedings inside the chamber. The four-judge bench was presided by Ahmed Abdul Hameed, who heard a witness of the defendants and the testimonies of the defence lawyers. The accused were not present in the court. When the judge asked about the reason for their absence, an officer from Al Wathba Jail in Abu Dhabi said that the accused refused to attend the court proceedings. Meanwhile, scores of Emiratis, holding banners and flags, started gathering outside the court since early morning and shouted slogans in support of the UAE leaders and against the bloggers."
