Uffe sent me this: "Regarding the release of Gilad Shalit, the western media is not even slightly aware of the bizarre proportions of it all. Gilad Shalit have received far more attention and articles than all palestinian prisoners throughout hsitory, than the fact that since 1967, over 650,000 Palestinians have been detained and imprisoned – thats 20 per cent of the total population or about 1 out of every 2 men has been detained at one point in his life under the occupation. Or the fact that Israel abduct and detain children. An editorial in Dagens Nyheter (the daily news) swedens most important newspaper (proudly liberal) said that this was a great day for Israel and that Gilad Shalit has been an innocent victim, and that he has nothing to do with the conflict. Can you believe the stupidity of such a remark? A soldier of an army that occupies land is completly innocent? But then again you don´t have to be smart to support Israel. You can say the most stupid things and get away with it. The reverse? Not so much. The title of the article says it all: Dont let Hamas get the prize. (or be the winner.)
And of course he mentioned that many of the palestinians that will be released have blood on their hands. And most of the article is about how difficult the situation is for Israel and that Hamas is dangerous and even though the blockade of Gaza is not justifiable, it has its explanations. Of course, palestinian actions can never be explained. He also complains about the fact that Hamas don´t want to have peace negotiations. Did the Palestine Papers learn us nothing? The sham of it all?"
