Jamal `Abdun-Nasser's eldest son, Khalid died. This family, as the family of an Arab ruler, was a model family. There were never any stories of corruption or influence whatsoever. The memoirs of Nasser's widow last year was a clear testimony of how they lived. Khalid was haunted, as soon as his father died: Arab masses wanted him to be like his dad. None of the sons or daughters had any of the qualities of the father. My father was a friend of Nasser's brother, Husayn, who ran Egypt Air in the 1970s. And we once had lunch with Nasser's sister, Huda (I think) who was married to the son of wealthy Egyptian and Sadat politician (Muhammad Shahin? if I remember). Huda's father-in-law was a cruel feudal landlord who treated the peasants on his farm so cruelly. I was eleven at the time and Huda asks as: so do you hunt ducks? And we were stunned. We had a different image of Nasser's relatives. We joked about that question for years later.
