Look how NYT exonerates Israeli racists

"There was a pattern to the parole board’s decisions, but it wasn’t related to the men’s ethnic backgrounds..." (thanks Abdallah)  How did the writer know it was not related to the men's ethnic backgrounds? Because they did not admit they were racists?  This is like saying that Nazis on Kristallnacht disregarded the victims' religion.
