Illegitimacy of US actions: the Mubarak trial

It can easily be maintained that there is full agreement among ALL Arabs that all US actions in Iraq were illegitimate.  A good example is the trial of Mubarak.  All Arab media are full of commentary and all were saying that it was the first time that an Arab leader was put on trial.  Not one ever mentioned the trial of Saddam because it was not seen as legitimate under the occupation.  Even a right-wing reporter at An-Nahar said on TV that the Saddam trial can't be counted because whatever US did in Iraq was not legitimate.  It is amazing how the US views its actions so differently that they are viewed by Arabs.  Look at the reference to Iraq in the column by the Shallow Columnist (Thomas Friedman) yesterday: he even have to add after praising it, but it may not work after all.  That was hilarious.  He said:  "Iraq demonstrates that it is theoretically possible to go from an old Hama Rules tyranny to consensual politics — but it required $1 trillion, thousands of casualties, a herculean mediation effort by the U.S. and courageous Iraqi political will to live together — and even now the final outcome is uncertain."
