There is a different between supporting Arab uprisings and supporting the opposition groups that speak in the name of those uprising. I personally believe in vigilance against being swept by support for some reactionary Arab opposition group. This is like the Iranian Revolution: here was a broad revolution with a strong Khumayni movement. People in the radical left like me were against lending support for Khumayni for fear that this would lead to the hijacking of a popular and broad-based revolution. Some of the same liberals and leftists who aligned themselves with Khumayni were later persecuted (like Tudeh). I see a similar mood: it is our support for Arab uprisings that should lead us to oppose Nahda in Tunisia, Muslim Brotherhood and Salafites in Egypt, and Muslim Brotherhood in Syria, the NATO transitional Council in Libya, and Wifaq in Bahrain. (The Saudi Wahhabi liberals are too insignificant to be dealt with: they are mere tools in the hands of larger Islamist parties and movements).
